20250702 All of our students (and the teachers!) are all excited about next week's Prefectural Tournament leading to the Summer Koshien. KHS will go up against a team of combined Western Ibaraki high schools on July 10th at the Noble Home Stadium in Mito, weather permitting.
Students gathered in the gymnasium to practice In preparation for cheering at the stadium, and they had a great time letting loose, putting all of their energy into it!

20250606 Kashima Time Presentations Third year students held presentations to report on the projects they’ve been working on since last year. Presentations were held in front of small groups, large groups or entire seminar groups depending on the seminar. Many students used Kashima Time to get a head start on their fields of study in university, while others chose topics of personal interest.
20250528 Third year students had the opportunity to talk to representatives from over 50 universities, colleges, technical schools, and more regarding their chosen post-high school plans.
There are a lot of possibilities out there, some better than others, some easier than others, some just plain challenging! Take your time to really think about it, and then choose wisely.
But don’t forget these famous words from a man who actually found success:
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
“The Road Not Taken”, Robert Frost
20250527 Do you know how many foreigners there are on the KHS & JHS teaching team? There are now...
...wait for it...
...FIVE foreigners on the team! Yes, you read that right. Five foreigners! That is the most foreigners on staff of any public school in Ibaraki.
So, who are they? Where do they come from? Are they human, alien or android?
Let's take a look starting from the newest member, and working our way back.
Benjamin-sensei:
Hello! My name is Benjamin and I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I went to the University of Minnesota, where I studied sustainable development and global policy. My favorite things about Japan are the kind people, countless mountains, and abundant sushi. Please enjoy your year!
Arie-sensei:
Hi! I’m Arieboke Koma — a curious soul born in Zimbabwe in the early '90s, now working and exploring life in Japan. In 2015, I graduated from university with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science. I have the abilit...
20250517 Open lessons were held for parents and guardians taking an interest in their children's education at KHS and the Attached JHS, after which a representative from Kashima Police gave a lecture on bicycle helmet safety, which was then followed by the PTA General Meeting. As with last year, the junior high classes were of great interest, judging by the number of parents and guardians observing them. Compared to last year's event, attendance was much higher than in previous years, as almost every open space on campus aside from the soccer pitch and the baseball diamond was being used as parking space.

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended today's event!!
Benesse Corporation held a special Academic Guidance Session for parents and guardians this afternoon. Attendance was good as parents and guardians concerned about their children's futures gathered to hear about and better understand the complex hoops and hurdles that make up university entrance procedures.
The annual General Meeting of the Student Body was carried out by Student Council online during today’s LHR giving account for the previous year’s activities and expenses, and presenting the student body with the 2025 budget and their plans for the 2025 academic year. This year’s schedule includes the biannual Sports Festival, as well as many other activities, so it promises to be an exciting year for the students.

2025 Classmatch to Welcome New Students
All of the students and teachers had a very enjoyable day competing in a variety of tournaments including Soccer, Dodgeball, Badminton, Table Tennis, and even Mölkky, a game that was invented on Finland (wasn't one of our teachers born there?)!
Each student competed fiercely for the win. A great opportunity to make new friends from other classes, and other grades, a day of laughter echoing throughout the campus reminded us that friendship, cooperation, teamwork, cheering others on, and just having fun is the real victory in life.
Congratulations to you, the victorious!
And otsukaresama desu to all of you who made new friends, put out your best ef...
20250409 The Welcome Ceremony for the new first year students was held by the Student Council today. They were treated to an introduction to the school, as well as a video introducing the various club activities available for KHS students. Each class was also presented with a copy of last year's Shikabue, which also contains information on clubs.
Hopefully they will all find an activity that suits their interests!
20250407 And so it begins!
The 2025 School Year Opening Ceremony was held today. New staff members were introduced to the students for the first time, they being just as nervous as the students, or more so. New Principal, new Vice Principal, new Music teacher.... So many new members for the students to get to know!
The new student councils for both the high school and the junior high school were also sworn in. Their buggest activity this year will be the Sports Festival. We are looking forward to an exciting 2025.
Finally, the second and third year homeroom teachers and assistant homeroom teachers were also introduced. Students held their breath as they waited to hear who their teacher would be for this year.
20250404 As in previous years, a number of teachers moved on to different schools, or retired at the end of the 2024 school year. Four teachers came for a Farewell Ceremony held this afternoon for those teachers. Students listened intently as teachers made emotional farewell speeches, and reminisced about their years at KHS and the time they spent with the students. The Student Council preswented the teachers with beautiful bouquets.
Thank you and Farewell!

20250325 The soon-to-be 2025 1st year students entering KHS in April are one step closer to becoming senior high school students. Together with a parent or guardian, all arrived early to absorb information regarding entrance procedures, schedules, PTA activities, and much more. Following the orientation, students were lining up to purchase school shoes, textbooks, and sportswear, as well as to get information regarding club activities.
We look forward to seeing you all in April!
20250321 Students were recognized for their achievements in academics, sports and club activities as the 2024 academic year comes to a close. As is always the case at this time of the year, the gymnasium felt a little roomier as the third year students have graduated. Second year students are one step closer to becoming third year students, and are ready to take the reigns as they forge their way toward their futures.
20250312 The 2025 Second Year Online Biblio Battle, in which one representative from each class had the opportunity to present a book they had recently read, was held today. The students made persuasive, lively presentations, and those watching were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Excellent work, everyone!
20250307 The Day After
The day after graduation is always a sad day, as the empty halls resound with the silence of the absence of students. Third year classrooms are left with only the remnants of graduation -- decorated blackboards, desks pushed to make room for the final class photo, and chaulk-scribbled messages to classmates: "Thank you everyone!", "Let's continue to do our best!", and "I will never forget any of you!"
We won't forget you, either!
20250306 And so we say goodbye to the graduating class of 2025, who had their graduation ceremony today. The clouds threatened rain, but the weather gods were on the grads' side today!
Overwhelmed by emotions, many took their last look at the classrooms where they spent so many days, made so many friends, and learned so much....
Wishing the members of the Class of '25 success in their future endeavours, and happiness and prosperity to all!
20250305 The Class of '25, during their second to last day of school for them, went through the Graduation Ceremony Rehearsal today. Though not Grad itself, which is tomorrow, you could clearly see the anticipation in their eyes: "This is it! We're finally here!"
But you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow....
20250217 In the low temperatures of a cold winter afternoon, there's nothing better than music to get you moving and warmed up!
Hence, the Rock Band Club Outdoor Concert!
There was a good crowd as fellow students turned up to rock out to their classmates' musical menu. Things got a little emotional when the 3rd year students came on last.
Thanks for the awesome ear-candy!
20250108 Reconvening Ceremony The Reconvening Ceremony was held today, bringing in the New Year, as well as marking the beginning of the last three months of the school year itself. Along with the ceremony, there was a send-off for a student who will take part in the National Biblio Battle (https://zenkoku.bibliobattle.jp/).
Congratulations!
Merry Christmas from Joulupukki (a.k.a., Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, St. Nicholas, and other aliases). Christmas is a perfect time to remember all of the special people in your life, to look back on the good things from the last year, to ponder how you will tackle the upcoming New Year…. It’s also a good time to pray for World Peace, which is long overdue.
And it’s a time when you can be kind to others, a time when you can do something nice for people you don’t even know! What a wonderful time of year!
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
20241223 The Closing Ceremony before the Winter holidays was held today. Many students were praised and applauded for their various efforts in sports, academics, and national competitions. And now, they are all off for a well-deserved rest. Many third year students will be using this time to study for their university entrance interviews and to polish up their interview skills.
Good luck to you all!

20241217 The second year students went on the school excursion to Okinawa from December 7th to 10th. A great time was had by all, despite the irregularly cold weather with temperatures dipping down to 16 degrees centigrade.
The last stop was the relatively new Umekaji Terrace, which was built on Senagajima near the Naha Airport in 2015. It offers some superb dining with splendid views. For those who fancy aeronautics, you can sit in the terraced eateries, watching commercial airplanes (and even fighter jets) taking off and landing at the Naha Airport.
